Zamalek overcome Abu Salem in CAF Confederation Cup opener

Zamalek have defeated Libyan outfit Abu Salem 1-0 in their opening game of the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.

The White Knights returned to action after the November international break with a clash against Abu Salem at home.

With their first game back, the hosts needed some time to find their rhythm as Ahmed Mostafa Zizo had his first sight at goal after 11 minutes but his shot was off target.

A resilient Abu Salem side managed to hold Zamalek for the majority of the game but it was Youssef Obama who gave Zamalek the late breakthrough.

Zizo’s 73rd-minute corner delivery found Obama’s thumping header as his goal was enough for Zamalek to secure the victory.

Their upcoming game will be in the Egyptian Premier League against Modern Future on Wednesday, November 29th.
